Preparing for Work Sheffield - Supporting young people with SEND into employment

This session will explore how providers can support young people to progress into employment. It mainly focuses on young people with SEND who do not have EHC plans but who will need extra help to get into work.

The session will allow time to:

  • discuss the range of options for work related activities, including work experience, and explore how these can fit into a coherent curriculum
  • hear from providers who are offering pathways into employment for young people
  • discuss how to support young people on work experience and into work
  • look at some of the practical issues such as employer engagement

Lunch will be provided.

10.30 - Introduction to the day: background and context
10.45 - Hearing from providers - sharing what has worked well.
11.15 - Developing a work related curriculum: building work experience and employment pathways into the curriculum, and looking at what makes work experience effective
12.00 - Feedback
12.30 - Lunch
1.00 - Making it happen: understanding some of the practical issues such as employer engagement, employer support, staff training and funding
2.00 - Final comments and close
