Implementing the Care Bill (links to the SEND reforms)
|The theme for this week is Implementing the Care Bill (links to the SEND reforms). There are a number of themes across the Care Bill and the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) reforms that overlap such as: Outcomes, Wellbeing and Person centred practice; Information, Advice and Support; Joint Commissioning; and Assessment and planning to name a few. It would be great to hear about your experiences of how joined up implementation of the two pieces of legislation is working in local areas and also what the challenges are.
Please post any questions and/or challenges which are causing barriers to you implementing this element of the reforms between Monday 24th March and 5pm on Wednesday 26th March. Once you have posted your question we will arrange for a response to be posted to the forum.

|The assertion from children, young people and parents "nothing about us, without us" is often not respected by professional workers. The perception is that the interests of their employing organisation or themselves are often prioritised over their wishes, feelings and wants. If person centred practice where assessments and provision are to be co-produced is to occur, professional workers need to be open and transparent about their interests and the employing organisation inteests. Only then can paradoxes, conflicts and dilemmas be worked through positively. How is your organisation encouraging learning and practice in this key area?|
|As a Social Worker, (now recently ex-) we were always told we were "officers of the department". We were not advocates for families. So yes, the organisation is first in line. This was at a time when young people had budgets, now they are no longer available in adult services because of cuts would imagine encouraging "learning and practice in this key area" would be an uphill struggle.|
We are extending this topic to Wednesday 2nd April.
